CIEL is the UK’s livestock innovation Centre, helping to introduce innovative technologies and processes into livestock production – UK and worldwide. We:


  • Provide leadership

    joining up distinct pockets of excellence to form a world-class hub of expertise, tackling the issues that no one part of the sector can address alone

  • Act as the broker

    for one of the world’s largest livestock science hubs, working with world-leading researchers and industry partners across the supply chain to identify challenges, potential solutions and routes to R&D funding

  • Facilitate access

    to £70 million of capital investment in new R&D capability across all livestock sectors, that will develop agri-tech to directly benefit UK farming and the wider agrifood industry

CIEL is proud to be a member of the Animal Task Force (ATF). The ATF is a European Public-Private Partnership of research organisations and farmer and industry organisations, working together on a sustainable and competitive European livestock production sector by fostering knowledge development and innovation in the whole animal production chain. CIEL is pleased to be part of the Food Industry Initiative on Antimicrobials (FIIA) which has the stated vision of ‘Retailers, manufacturers, processors and food service companies coming together to promote and support responsible antimicrobial use and action on antimicrobial resistance. The intention of this initiative is to support and engage with existing industry groups working in this area, ensuring work is aligned, avoiding duplication of effort and it has 3 key working groups on Responsible Use, Data and Research & Development.
