Challenge

Working with its Members do drive innovation within the livestock supply chain 2022, CIEL is focussed on tackling the ‘Grand Challenges’ which have been identified for UK livestock production: antimicrobial resistance; developing climate smart food systems; endemic disease reduction; food safety, quality & integrity; animal health and welfare management; and resource efficiency & precision nutrition.

Action

CIEL has been supporting a wave of short, high impact industry match-funded projects that have been led by its Members targeting several of these priority areas for the livestock food supply chain 2022. The findings are designed to inform and catalyse future research and development which will lead to the development of new processes, products and services to address the sector challenges that have been identified.

Leading names involved in processing, retail and animal health have worked with scientists drawn from across CIEL’s research alliance to deliver the work, making full use of the research facilities available,  CIEL have developed these with its founding research members.
